Our first full day in Greece was the worst weather all week. We hung around our house and then ventured out for dinner, stopping at a very nice looking restaurant. The place was huge, but was empty; however, the owner quickly reassured us that they would be glad to serve us. He offered us no menus, but took the men aside to discuss what we should eat. The guys decided to order fresh Red Snapper and all the traditional sides.

The food came out, the food was really good. The owner and his wife even came out to chat with us. They let our kids have the run of the restaurant. They played with the toys that their kids had left there.
Then...he brings us the bill. We should have asked for a menu. Though our meal was good, it was not worth the 350 Euro we paid for it. Which, by the way, was more than we had paid for our half of the townhouse. We felt like we HAD to pay it because we had eaten the food and told the owner how much we enjoyed it. And since the guy had sat down and talked to us, he knew exactly where we were staying.
Doesn't he even look a little shady...

But, you live and learn. ALWAYS ask for a menu. Supposedly, they have a different menu for whoever walks in, so asking for the menu might not have made a difference here. Apparently, he sizes you up and charges you accordingly. At least we wouldn't have ordered the Red Snapper, though.
We spoke to the owner of the place we were staying at, Spyros, and learned that we were not the first visitors this restaurant has done this to.
Just in case you were interested this is what a 125 Euro Red Snapper looks like. That's 125 Euro each. Ughhh, still don't know if I am completely over it.
